Physical Jerks

Biography

Physical Jerks are a ska/reggae/dub band who met somewhere in salford in about 2004. Brought together by a love of Phatt bass, offbeats, theremins and sax cadenzas, they went on to carve an unwanted swathe across the manchester ska scene, engaging in sonic terrorism of venues such as Jilly's Rockworld, Glass, Manchester Academy 3, London Underground's Northern Line, Jack's parents' house and the Old Pint Pot (which now feels older).

After losing original singer/geeky techno-git Phil to Norweigan radio, the jerks revolved, renewed, regurgitated, regrouped, rewrote, rehabbed, recruited Rich "Colossal" Wassall, got a new theremin and (eventually) returned.
With the addition of Calum 'Flash' Gordon's keyboard wizardry, the lineup of Physical Jerks v3.1.2 was finally complete, and a triumphant tour of Camden followed.

Sadly, this now-legendary christmas extravaganza proved too much for Rich, who had decided to tour the Far East to "escape the music"

The discovery of Joe 'The Mad' Monck in a Manchester hostelry on new years eve led to the reformation of Physical Jerks v5.12.7, by far the band's most stable lineup to date.

Their unique take on 'music' has come about from a fusing of funky, punky and occasionally George Michael saxophone fear from The Artist Formerly Known as Vince, disco-ska groovery from Tedward the Great, a great big slide of brass beef from "The Mad Monck", a rock-solid sub-bass foundation (from time to time accidentally straying into audible territory) provided by Joel (the Bass Cowboy, the Gangster of Dub) and the unique keyboard stylings of Calum 'Flash' Gordon. Vocal and Guitar duties are handled by Jack 'solos™' Harbord - part fret-wanker, part offbeat legend.

'Honorary Jerk' status has been officially conferred to Biff 'Biff Roxby' Roxby and Sam 'Snickers' Lewis who have very kindly inserted their horns when required.

Adam and James interpret many of their songs through the medium of contemporary dance.

Physical Jerks have a small, growing and slightly strange following, in their adapted Manchester, the wider UK, and the world at large. Very large.
